What Is Pokémon Yellow?
Pokémon Yellow for Game Boy was a classic RPG featuring some standard enhanced elements inspired by the Pokémon anime. As the third release in the original series, it had the player take on the role of a young Trainer, Pikachu following from outside its Poké Ball just as Ash's Pikachu did in the show. Turn-based battles and the exploration of Kanto with the end goal of becoming the Pokémon Champion have further earned this game a retro gem status among fans.

History
Released in 1998 and 1999 (USA), Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition was an enhancement of the original Red/Blue games, albeit with color backgrounds, a Pikachu starter, and Team Rocket encounters involving Jessie & James. It filled in the gap between the games and the burgeoning popularity of the anime.
