What is Pokémon Gold?

Pokémon Gold is a classic RPG that belongs to the second generation of that cherished Pokémon franchise. Set across the gorgeous Johto region, the game builds on the basics with new Pokémon, abilities, and a night-day cycle that impacts gameplay. As a beginner Pokémon Trainer, you have a multitude of landscapes to traverse and will be battling against trainers- all in the hope of becoming the best trainer ever by catching and training Pokémon.

How to Play

Exploration: Guide your character through towns, routes, and dungeons through the use of a directional pad. Talk to NPCs, solve challenges, and explore mysteries.
Battles: Walk into the wild Pokémon and enter a turn-based battle. Use strategic moves to weaken or capture wild Pokémon, or defy an opposing trainer in battle.
Catching & Training: Capture wild Pokémon using Poké Balls to create a well-balanced team alongside leveling them in combat.
Gyms & Elite Four: Put your skills to test by battling Gym Leaders to earn badges to apply to the ultimate challenge—the Pokémon League.
Day & Night Cycle: Some Pokémon appear during certain times only, giving the game more depth and reasons to replay it.

Tips & Tricks

Save Often: Because there is no autosave feature, save your progress manually or you might lose it.
Diversify Your Group: Select Pokémon from different types (Water, Fire, Electric, etc.) to be prepared for any attacker.
NPC Interactions: Talk to everyone-ngos usually give useful items or hints.
Use Repels Wisely: These prevent wild encounters and are great for navigating caves or grind areas.
Level Before Elite Four: Your team should be at least level 45-50 before battling.

History

Originally launched in 1999 (Japan) and 2000 (North America) for the Game Boy Color, Pokémon Gold (along with Pokémon Silver) added a hundred new Pokémon, Breeding Mechanics, and Items. It was an unprecedented hit, reaching sales of over 23 million copies worldwide. Post-game content for the game-from the Kanto region of Pokémon Red/Blue-set new benchmarks for RPG sequels.
