What is Pokémon Gary’s Mod?

Here is a different take on the Kanto adventure Gary’s Mod, placing you into the shoes of Gary Oak, Ash’s famous cocky rival. This ROM hack offers a new interpretation of the Pokémon FireRed experience, peeling back the curtains to reveal Gary’s hidden odyssey as the real hero working to save Kanto. Traverse mysterious caves, secret pathways, and revamped locations while befuddling Team Rocket and proving to the world that history goes by many perspectives.

How to Play

• Explore Kanto (With a Twist): Wander through familiar towns and routes, now added with new areas and lore to deepen the experience.
• Catch and Train: Make your team from Pokémon of Kanto, with some handful selections of Johto and Hoenn, and don’t expect all species to be present.
• New Mechanics: Physical/Special Split, Fairy types, and easy evolution (stone evolution for most of the Eevee evolutions).
• Promo Codes: Claim time-based rare Pokémon or items on beta releases on the second floor of any Poké Center.

Tips & Tricks

• Dig Deep: Look everywhere—key story and items are concealed in hidden paths and underground areas.
• Diversify Your Team: Adjust your grouping to the changed evolutions, bearing type advantages in mind (a must for Fairy-type cover).

History

This hack uses Pokémon FireRed as its engine, modernized through community patches, such as MrDollSteak's enhancements. Taking it as a passion project, it differs from the conventional Kanto lore with the GARY angle; a story never highlighted properly in the original games or anime.
