What Is Pokémon ROWE Edition?

Pokémon ROWE (Reinvented Open World Emerald) Edition is a fan rekindling of Pokémon Emerald. It aims to create a fully open-world Hoenn experience. Designed for replay and choice in team congruency, this ROM hack offers a contemporary layer of quality-of-life improvements while still retaining the essence of the original game. Having a non-linear storyline, level scaling, and Pokémon from all eight generations, ROWE has been a nostalgic exercise with new challenges for both veterans and beginners.

How to Play

Open Exploration: Explore Hoenn in any way you want. Gyms scale to your progress, thus eliminating traditional barriers.
Diverse Starters: Nine choices for starters, including some outside the usual Hoenn trio.
Modern Mechanics: Enjoy reusable TMs, Gen 6 Exp. Share, Mega Evolutions, and Physical/Special split.
Quality-of-Life Upgrades: Fly early with Gen 8 taxis, forget about HMs with PokeRide, and use Move Reminders and IV checkers in every Pokémon Center.
Hard Mode: An optional challenge mode with a soft level cap (inspired by Pokémon Clover) for a more challenging experience.

Tips & Tricks

DexNav Hunting: Monitor rare Pokémon with hidden abilities or egg moves using the DexNav.
Team Synergy: With Pokémon available from all generations, begin forming some unusual team combos.
Daily Rematches: Re-battle Gym Leaders for additional EXP and rewards—good for grinding.
Randomizer Mode: Mix it up with randomized wild encounters for some unpredictable fun.

History

ROWE Edition was developed by a passionate team of modders headed by rioluwott, AsparagusEdu, and Lunos, who wished to modernize Emerald while retaining its charm. Update v1.9.4 refined the level scaling mechanic and added Gen 8 quality of life improvements, cementing ROWE as a giant in the ROM hack community.
